Divination Method:
The Enchanted Map Oracle
Card(s) Drawn: Listening
Key Word(s): Openness, Understanding, Clarity
Words of Wisdom: “An open heart will hear the message.”
My Interpretation:
This week is the week to make sure people’s voices are heard. We shouldn’t just nod our heads and pretend to know what someone is saying, we need to do what we can to understand where people are coming from.
We can’t just listen to those we agree with either; listen to those on opposing sides of an issue as well. We may still disagree when they’ve said their piece, but we may have a better understanding of where they’re coming from, and more often than not understanding other’s viewpoints and concerns is what can lead to meaningful change.
This isn’t just about listening to the opposition though. Continue to listen to those whom we advocate for (including ourselves!). Can we learn more through remaining open to new and changing perspectives? Can we hear what they are NOT saying? The silences can be just as telling if we let go and trust our hearts guide us.
This last week has seen protests spring up in all 50 states and around the world. Many of these protesters are literally screaming their messages at everyone…and who can blame them. When communities of color have been begging to be heard for so long, only to be ignored, this was only a matter of time.
Listen to them now, and examine our own behaviors & beliefs. Listen and discover how we can help. Listen to what politicians are advocating for true systemic change, and hear those that are merely providing lip service.
Some of you may be annoyed that this seems to be a politically motivated post. However, look around you. These are politically charged times, for many reasons, there is simply no denying that.
The act of listening with an open heart obviously translates to our personal lives, but I’ll say this: It’s ok if the overwhelming nature of these times is too much for you to handle. I just spent two days ignoring everything and recharging myself by immersing myself in nature. My privilege as a white woman in America affords me the luxury to do so. I recognize that as fact. But, as I now continue to move forward in the world, I shall continue to let The Universe, and my conscience, guide me.
So, to sum up: We need to listen with the intent to understand, and not listen with the intent to reply. Now might be a good time to just love our fellow humans and utilize that oh so currently relevant line from The Wiccan Rede: “Speak ye little…listen much”.
Another quote to keep in mind:
“The place where you made your stand never mattered, only that you were there, and still on your feet. Be present. Stand up for what you believe in. Claim your strength and reason. All of these things are reflected in these words. I haven't been able to scroll through any newsfeed recently without seeing some post sharing activism, protest, or march. At a time where so many accuse "this generation" of being apathetic or uninvolved, it is encouraging to see people uniting behind their beliefs--even if politics finds many of us at polar opposite points. Whether your battle is personal or social, the act of choosing to stand is what matters.” Stephen King
That’s it for now! Go forth, Listen with Love and Make Your Stand.
